Biography

Windup Space are straddling the fine line between dark, atmospheric alt-rock and catchy emo-punk. They put feelings of isolation and anxiety into heartfelt songs and pour them out over the audience with great conviction. Their raw, extremely dynamic sound resembles emo bands like Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World, Basement and Black Foxxes. Renowned for their energetic and emotionally charged live performances, Windup Space take you on an intense, melancholic journey that ends with the band leaving the stage drenched in sweat.

Windup Space was founded in 2012 by singer/guitarist Menno van Marle, bassist Jesse Kwaks en drummer Steven van Marle. After releasing the well-received debut EP The Only Thing We Have to Fear (2016) the band steadily gained a reputation as a strong live act, playing shows in venues like Paradiso, Mezz, Bibelot and Gebouw-T. During this formative period, Windup Space was awarded numerous accolades, including best rockband in Breda and awards at T-strijd, BandBoost and Kleine Prijs van Nederland.

In 2019 the band released their sophomore effort Shelter. This eight song album is a brutally honest confession about topics like depression, anxiety and loneliness. Subsequent shows led the band to play festivals like Misty Fields and Breda Barst, and secured them a support slot opening for the British band Gender Roles.

Recently the band finished recording new music, resulting in 4 tracks that will be released over the course of 2020. The first of these singles 'Scared Enough' was released at February 7th, which sees the band chart new territories, adding a more upbeat and positive set of songs to their already diverse catalogue.
